Here's a link to my custom PeachOSI MATE desktop with Docky at the top and the traditional Gnome 2 "Applications - Places - System" menu bar at the bottom. Of course this is just one of an endless variety of ways that the MATE desktop can be configured, depending on the likes and needs of each user.
However you have your desktop set up, take a moment and share it with the rest of us. It's always fun to see how others set up their desktop work space!

Peach OSI MATE
Rather than the traditional Gnome 2 "Applications - Places - System" menu, I choose to use the more contemporary "mintmenu", as I find it more practical. I added the Xfce4 weather app and system load on the MATE panel as well:

I also feel more comfortable using 4 workspaces instead of the default three, but to each his own. I like to vary between different desktop environments, just to add some variety, but I tend to favor Xfce. Any DE I use under Peach OSI is fast.
I also added the Compton compositor manager on Xfce and MATE to solve the tearing issue with some videos and movies. It also adds transparency on MATE's mintmenu as you can see in the above links.
Regards,
Ed.
