Google Chrome Keyring prompt - originally from Joe Johnston

Hi Joe... I've been out of pocket today traveling but I have been monitoring some of the responses for Peach on the web. One of my cohorts replied to you sort of coherently but not quite as I would have. The only purpose for running any version of Peach from a Live CD would be to test it on your system. Running Live from a CD does not allow you to maintain any data for further fresh boot sessions. How or why you would get a request from any Peach version for a Google Chrome password is hard for me to grasp as no Peach version has ever utilized Google Chrome. If however you have tried to install Google chrome in a live session any such installed application will only be functional during that current session - because - as a stated above, any data in a live DVD session is not - cannot - be stored on the DVD. During any such live session the data is stored in that live session in RAM only. That is why rebooting clears anything that is not originally on DVD. I have booted every last version of Peach from a DVD in the past 30 minutes and none of my sessions ask for any password - let alone a Google Chrome password.

If you could please tell me Number 1: Which version of Peach are you using? (The Works, Barebones, or Netbook) (32 bit or 64 bit) Number 2: Where did you get the DVD or where did you download the ISO file for the DVD? Number 3: Did you install Google Chrome? and lastly Number 4: Did you try to install Peach OSI permanently and if you did install Peach did you have any issues with the install?

Well, I figured out how to

Well, I figured out how to fix this issue:

First run this is a terminal - sudo apt-get install seahorse

Second go into All Settings and launch Passwords and Keys

Thirdly, delete the Login entry under Passwords, then close out of settings and re-run the application that was calling for the Keyring Unlock.

When the Keyring Prompt comes up either input your login password or do what I do and do not enter anything and it will give a warning of not encrypting your passwords and then it will not popup anymore.

I hope this can help anyone that runs into this in the future.

  • Re: Google Chrome Keychain prompt

I have also run into the issue with the keychain prompt. It started appearing after I installed Chrome as well. Why, would I install another browser in an otherwise beautiful, well functioning, amazing linux distro? Netflix. But I digress.

After the first time I logged into my Google account in Chrome, I would get a popup asking me to login to my keychain each time opened Chrome. It won't accept my login password to my admin account. Normally I just click cancel and the popup goes away and I go without the advantages of the keychain (Which at this point are negligible).

When I next get in front of my Peach machine I will try the work around suggested by the OP and let you know how it worked!
