As promised - Peach OSI Barebones is ready for download from the Downloads Page. If you are still viewing the old downloads page refresh your browser by pressing the Ctrl - F5 keys simultaneously. While the response to Peach OSI has been nothing short of phenomenal, we have seen and read all the email about Peach having too much pre-loaded software to suit everyone's needs. With Peach OSI Barebones we hope that we can please a more discriminating audience. Light weight, fast and full of the latest Linux features, whether you are a well oiled computer enthusiast or a casual web surfer, Peach OSI Barebones makes computing with Linux easier than ever. Barebones is our special Peach offering for the Linux aficionado who would prefer to install their own applications. So get ready to take your Linux experience to the next level. Feel free to make your comments about Barebones below or anywhere on our site.....

By popular demand we created Peach OSI Barebones in the hopes that we could better satisfy those of you who would prefer to install your own software. Peach OSI "Barebones" is 1.2 GB in size which is about half of our full blown Peach OSI's download size. Both the 32 bit and the 64 bit versions of Peach OSI Barebones are under 1.2 GB in size. But we didn't just delete the software from our full version. We started over from scratch as that was the only way to make sure that the new OS was as clean as possible. Even though Peach OSI Barebones is scaled down it still incorporates computing options for everyone. With advanced accessibility tools and options to change language, color scheme and text size, Peach OSI Barebones makes computing easy, whoever and wherever you are no matter your age or affliction. Peach OSI Barebones still includes Firefox, the web browser used by millions of people around the world. Peach OSI Barebones is designed especially for the experienced Linux user . If you are the type who would prefer to install your own applications, then this version of Peach OSI is for you. But don't be surprised when your Wi-Fi works, your music CD's auto-play and your movie DVD's auto-play. We left in all the goodies that make Peach OSI do what it does best. Peach OSI Barebones comes with advanced system tools pre-installed that you won't find anywhere else. Grub Customizer, RemasterSys, Ubuntu Tweak and the optional Burg bootloader. You could create your own personal Linux distro with these tools. We've taken XFCE to new heights giving you a natural way to interact with our menus and your applications. We've coupled XFCE with the Whisker Menu and Peach's Slingshot Launchpad giving you an intuitive system that anyone can learn to use in a matter of minutes. We also limited the number of menu choices - Barebones has only two menus instead of four. We also removed our drawn wallpapers and installed only one wallpaper - an image courtesy of Charlie Henson... A special thanks to him. You should check out his work sometime.

Comments

I was a very happy user using Pesch OSI's "The Works" version: fast, designed and customized for easy us, which makes work much more productive and playtime even more fun. While the included software comes in handy, I found myself using more constantly the software I installed separately, being one of those individuals who like to customize their OS to their heart' content and also I wanted to see if it was possible to run Peach OSI a little faster by installing only the programs that I need. "Barebones" is just what I needed. I installed it at my work, replacing the required and slower Ubuntu with Xfce. I won't look back, and I couldn't be happier. As of this momen, I've installed Peach OSI Barebones on my Ultrabook as well and I'm installing from the terminal the software that I usually use, including some already included in "The Works", like Gimp, DigiKam, Vlc and Psensor. I am also installing optional Cinnamon and MATE Desktop Environments (customized with Peach OSI's logo, of course!) to add a little variety from time to time. I can't wait to see how it performs with Steam games. Best regards, Ed.
