Want Gimp to look and feel more like Photoshop®©?
If you have a version of Peach OSI prior to the download update version of 14.04.1.36 or 14.04.1L36 and you would like for the Gimp Image Editor application's GUI to look and feel more like Photoshop®© follow this simple and easy to use tutorial.
First download this file while booted into Peach OSI. .gimp_2_8_photoshop_tweaks.zip.
Then while inside Peach OSI..
Click on “Places” in the upper Xfce menu inside Peach OSI.
Click on your "user name" folder - this will be the folder created using your personal user name it will not be called "user name".
Click on “View” in the open window’s top menu.
Click to select to “Show Hidden Files” in the pull down menu.
Move the zip file that you downloaded above to your "user name" folder
Locate the .gimp-2.8 folder - right click on it - then either rename the folder or delete it.
(Renaming the folder will allow you to return to the Gimp default style setup should you ever decide that you want to return to the default Gimp setup again.)
In the same directory locate the gimp_2_8_photoshop_tweaks.zip file that you moved to this folder in the step above - right click on it and select “Extract Here”.
The next time that you open Gimp the program will set itself up with the new PeachShop settings.
In the event that you want to return to the default Gimp settings later, follow the steps above and after deleting or renaming the .gimp-2.8 folder - rename your previously renamed Gimp folder to .gimp-2.8.
Now you have the option to run Gimp with a Photoshop® look or feel or with the default Gimp GUI. Simply switch the folder name as desired.
Please note: This Gimp alteration is not meant to give you a full Photoshop® experience. It is simply a few changes to the GUI in Gimp that makes Gimp a little easier to use for those of you who are used to using Photoshop®. Photoshop® is a program by Adobe®. We only use their names to better explain what changes were made to Gimp. Peach OSI version 14.04.1.36 and 14.04.1L.36 available for download by Oct. 4th, 2014 will have this alteration as the default for Gimp.
