Customizing PeachOSI by AZ4x4

Know this won't be for everyone, but for those who've discovered PeachOSI and would like to add the more traditional MATE 1.8 desktop, either as an option to or a replacement for P_OSI's XFCE desktop, here's how to do it. Open a terminal window and run the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository "deb $(lsb_release -cs) main"

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install mate-core mate-desktop-environment mate-notification-daemon

Once everything's done restart your machine. At the login screen, click the icon and select MATE as your desktop environment.

  • Thanks for your input AZ for kicking off this thread. For those who like the Mate desktop you've given them the tools get it going!

  • You're welcome! PeachOSI is

You're welcome! PeachOSI is a great distro as is. Adding the long favored traditional Gnome 2 DE in the form of MATE's 1.8 desktop to it makes it even better in many ways for old and new users alike!

Those who've enjoyed Gnome 2 for years already know what MATE has to offer. For those just getting started with Linux there's no better time than now to discover the advantages that MATE brings with it.

Ease of use, light on resources, maturity in its development and overall flexibility when it comes to providing the user with tools necessary to do his or her job in the most efficient manner possible while providing unparalleled customization options are a few of the things this awesome Gnome 2 fork brings to today's Linux desktop.

Try it, and if you long for a more complete, more polished traditional desktop experience you can't help but love it!
