To upgrade to 16.04 or not to upgrade to 16.04

Well it's that time again. The "LTS" versions of Ubuntu go through their two year cycling and 16.04 is upon us. The hard fact is that upgrading your Peach OSI 14.04 distro to 16.04 is not ready from Ubuntu as of yet - so therefore- neither is our 16.04 version ready. The reasons are as multi-folded as the changes to be implemented in 16.04. Many of the applications that we all have used for years currently do not work at all on 16.04 or don't completely function as before. Some of this is due to Ubuntu's push to "Snap" the system into being more cross-platform friendly with other devices such as smart phones and tablets but that's not all. There is also a push for Ubuntu to be more "cloud" friendly as well. All of these changes are important and it does reflect the growing pains of all Linux based systems and for the most part - we here at Peach OSI commend Ubuntu on all of their efforts.

What we want our Peach users to know and understand is that implementing all of these platform changes is going to take time. We first need for Ubuntu to settle on what their upgrade to 16.04 will actually contain, work out their own issues and then we will perform our usual magic on making that upgrade perform like a fine tuned sports car. We have previously planned to have our version of 16.04 out by July 1st, 2016 but as May comes to close and Ubuntu still hasn't officially submitted their approved upgrade to 14.04 - that July 1st date is looking more like August 1st.
