Peach OSI is now codenamed "The Works"

We've just completed the largest update to Peach OSI in its short 5 month history. We have updated so many things in Peach that I will not be able to explain them all in one article but here are a few of the updates. It is currently available for download on our downloads page. Don't forget to refresh your browser if you have viewed the downloads page recently.  Otherwise, you may not be viewing the latest page.

The Linux kernel was updated to 3.13.0-40 from 3.13.0-36. The taskbar and dock was updated for faster, more functional and easier usage. Thanks to a perfect gentleman/photographer named Charlie Henson, who has agreed to allow Peach OSI usage of his superb wallpaper backgrounds. This alone is worth downloading and installing or re-installing Peach OSI. Peach OSI - our flagship OS - is now to be called Peach OSI - "The Works." The reasons are obvious. We are planning to offer several other versions of Peach OSI and we needed a way to differentiate between them.

Some of the other changes are:

Some Applications were deleted from the distro. Most of them provided duplicate services that another application already provided. This provided for reducing the overall size of the OS.

The usage of Parole Media Player was added for better support for auto starting movie DVDs. VLC Media Player was not removed for those of you who prefer VLC.

The Menus were greatly improved with most system functions now only available in "System Settings."

The code used by Peach OSI was substantially condensed reducing the boot time and shut down time. A net savings of up to 200MB.

Overall improved boot window appearance and management as well as background wallpaper handling improvements.

Better support for running Peach OSI - "The Works" in Live Mode or in a Virtual Machine. If you want to try The Works in a Virtual Machine you will especially appreciate these changes.

That's enough explaining the changes. Whether you  are currently using Peach OSI or new to Peach OSI, these changes will make for a more pleasant experience using our flagship OS.

Please be patient with us as we update our web pages to reflect the changes to Peach OSI.

Have a great day... Jim

If we have Peach OSI the original from 5 months ago installed, can we "upgrade" to the latest Peach or do we have to reinstall the latest Peach "The Works"? I guess I am asking about the overall "Upgrades" of a how and when and for this Distro. Thanks! Love My Peach!!!!

Hi and thanks for your comments and your questions.

If you want the latest version of Peach OSI code named "The Works" you will need to do a complete reinstall.  If you have data in your current user folders that you wish to keep, copy all the folders, (Documents, Music, Video, etc. ) to something like a flash drive - do the new installation and then after the installation copy your user folders back into the new installation.  Do not, however, copy and folders that have a (.) period in front of the folder name in the user folders. You probably won't see any of those anyway as they are hidden folders unless you have selected to unhide them.

There are a lot of upgrades and improvements in the latest version.
You can run the newer version live in order to determine if you indeed would like to move up to the newer version.

If I can be if any other assistance please don't hesitate to ask.
