We here at Peach OSI are proud to announce the release of Peach OSI 14.04.1.36 & 14.04.1L..36. This is the latest point of release for the 14.04 LTS lifecycle. This point release includes all the bug fixes and improvements that have been applied to Peach OSI 14.04 since it has been released. It also includes updated hardware support and installer fixes. If you have a Peach OSI 14.04 or 14.04.1 system your system will not be on 14.04.1.36 or 14.04.1L.36 and if you want to upgrade you will need to do a complete re-install. For new installations, installing from the updated media is recommended since it will be installable on more systems than before and will require drastically less updates than installing from the original 14.04 media. This release ships with a back ported kernel and X stack. This enables users to make use of more recently released hardware. Current users of Peach OSI 14.04 and 14.04.1 won't be automatically updated to this back-ported stack. Another proposed change in this version of Peach OSI is the changes to Gimp creating a more Photoshop®© look and feel. For more on this change go here to review the changes to Gimp. The purpose of this software change is to make the Gimp image editor easier to use for everyone. It will be easy to switch back and forth from the standard Gimp GUI to the proposed PeachShop Gimp GUI.
All sold - as of Oct. 1st, 2014 and future - Peach OSI DVD's and Flash Drives will contain these updated versions code named Peach OSI 14.04.1.36 and 14.04.1L.36. Support for the deprecated versions - 14.04 - will continue through it's normal 5 year cycle.
Although Peach OSI 14.04 systems cannot be automatically updated to 14.04.1 & 14.04.1L.36, reinstalling over an existing partition of 14.04 can be easily achieved through the installer by selecting "Something Else" during the regular installation. To ensure that the Peach OSI 14.04 LTS series will continue to work on the latest hardware as well as keeping quality high right out of the box, other system updates may occur when needed. Update your installation of Peach OSI regularly to help insure that you are up to date with improvements, bug fixes and other hardware support. Most updates do not require a complete re-install, rather the update Icon on your dock inside Peach OSI will help to keep your system updated. If you desire to keep the information that you have installed and or changed in Peach OSI's prior versions you can backup your "Home" (your personal "Username" folders to a flash drive. Install Peach OSI 14.04.1.36 or Peach OSI 14.04.1L.36 and then restore your "Home", "Username" folders. If you want the Photoshop® changes to the Gimp GUI do not move your .gimp-2.8 folder. If you accidentally copy the .gimp-2.8 folder over the updated Peach OSI install the Photoshop® updates are available in your "Username" folder in a zip file. Simply delete the .gimp-2,8 folder and unzip the .gimp_2_8_photoshop_tweaks.zip file inside the "Username" folder. Your "Username" folder will be named whatever you used for your username during the installation of Peach OSI.
Thank you for your continued support and interest in Peach OSI!
